What is dust bunnies from totoro?

Dust bunnies are small, fluffy creatures that are featured in the movie "My Neighbor Totoro", directed by Hayao Miyazaki. In the movie, these small creatures are seen floating around homes or wallowing in corners, and they are sometimes referred to as "soot sprites".

The filmmakers portrayed dust bunnies as being mischievous and misbehaving frequently. They are attracted to dark and dirty places and are fascinated by humans’ homes. Despite the fact that they are thought to be an annoyance and difficult to get rid of, the dust bunnies are not really malicious, but rather playful creatures with a childlike curiosity.

In the movie, the main characters, two young sisters named Satsuki and Mei, befriend the dust bunnies and even hold a small ceremony to provide them with a home in the new house they just moved. From that point on, the dust bunnies start living alongside the family and are shown to be assisting in small ways, such as by cleaning and repairing small gaps in the house.
